MedUX awarded new patent for evaluating network speed
MedUX, the leading technology company in Measurement of Quality and Customer Experience in fixed, mobile and TV telecommunications networks, has been recently issued its third patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), for “evaluating network speed by multiple parallel data exchanges between a client device and multiple servers via the network” (see Innovation & Quality web section).
This patent covers MedUX’s unique testing methodology used by the so-called MedUX Cloud Speed Test which is a multi-thread and multi-server speed test, used to measure the downlink/uplink throughput, with detailed information used for troubleshooting and optimization purposes.

Cloud Speed Test into practice
MedUX conducts since 2017 an independent measurement and benchmarking study of the in-home fixed broadband performance in several countries in Europe, including main Telecom Operators in the UK, Germany Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Ireland, and more recently Romania, Hungary and Czech Republic.
MedUX performs a large-scale active testing from the end user perspective for fibre, HFC and xDSL access networks. Over 2.000 probes connected to end-customers’ CPE devices perform regular and continuous tests (24/7) to ensure a statistically valid sample across the most penetrated speed tiers/propositions in each market (see European Benchmarking web section).
Recently, MedUX also launched its new CDN performance test that measures, monitors and benchmarks the performance of several CDNs directly from customer premises, revealing the TRUE customer experience.
The test initially measures throughput and latency to CDNs by fetching an object over TCP/IP based on the unique testing methodology used in the MedUX Cloud speed test. Current default test configuration, during the first trials with European telecommunication operators, is set up to fetch a 10 MB file.
How does the MedUX Cloud Sped Test work?
The Cloud Speed Test establishes multiple simultaneous connections, allowing to fill the available bandwidth more easily and evaluate network performance from parallel exchanges of data between our devices and multiple content provider systems via the network. As the test progresses, more threads are dynamically opened by the client device, if required to measure the maximum speed more accurately.
To evaluate network or communication channels performance, the client device requests content from each of multiple content provider systems via the network. The client device determines one or more metrics, such as download data rate or upload data rate, for receiving or for transmitting content from each of the different content provider systems during a time interval.
Our Downlink (DL) Cloud speed test downloads a number of files over TCP from public sources, particularly CDN enhanced edge sources that are closer by nature to the customer and are independent of Telecom Operators or ISPs. The Cloud speed test results in an actual sustained download / upload speed defined as throughput, in Mbps, utilizing as many concurrent TCP connections as dynamically required and measured at a typically 20–25 second interval of a sustained data transfer.
This innovation becomes the third patent registered by the company and reinforces the importance of Quality Measurement and Customer Experience in fixed, mobile and TV telecommunication networks.
