7 reasons to understand why summer is challenging for CX

Hey, you, have you noticed? It’s summer time! You might be reading us from your comfy sofa in your holiday apartment, or maybe you’re just lying on the beach, having a drink or about to go to a summer festival. Summer means a change in social habits, it is time for holidays! However, nowadays we can’t get away from continuous access to the Internet. We can’t imagine our lives without our mobile devices being connected wherever we go, and this fact entails a challenge for telecom operators and their good service performance. Then, do we really understand the main reasons why User Experience is so challenging and important in summer?
Summer Connectivity Challenges
- In Europe, the end of roaming in 2017 drove a 5 fold increase in data usage. This means five-times more demand on mobile services and five-times more traffic that must be driven through the networks.
- There are more massive open-air events, like music festivals, which require specific telecom solutions, mainly due to the huge amount of people who gather in these crowded places.
- Most of us usually move to remote leisure areas in the nature where the access points to networks might not work as well as they work in more populated cities.
- According to Facebook, 92% of Summer-related conversations in the US took place on mobile. In summer, social meetings increase, and we ll want to be constantly connected with friends, even with those who may be on holidays on the other side of the world.
- We demand real-time information, above all we need to check our route in the maps, information about tourist sites, weather, news, events, and so on. Furthermore, we need to manage flight, hotel and restaurant bookings.
- Although we tend to take advantage of hotel and restaurants Wi-Fi, we should be prepared if it fails or if it doesn’t work properly. In these cases, we better have our mobile phones ready to use Internet wherever we are.
- Finally, in the era of social networks, when everyone is over-connected, over-informed and over-exposed, we are all always excited to share our holidays on the Internet.
The main message behind all the above-mentioned characteristics and needs is that, in summer, users are more demanding than ever, and telecom operators should be prepared for summer holidays and anticipate the breakdown situations that can occur, so they can assure the best User Experience possible.
