MedUX Joins Phase V of TM Forum Catalyst Project: Boosting QoE with Sustainability, Gen AI, and 5G Slicing

In today’s hyperconnected world, ensuring a consistent, high-quality digital experience isn’t a luxury—it’s a competitive necessity. That’s why MedUX is proud to participate in Phase V of the TM Forum Catalyst project, “Autonomous Customer Experience Index (CEI) for Zero-Touch 5G and Wi-Fi Networks.” This new phase brings together leaders like Telefónica and Elisa, in collaboration with Tupl, Optare Solutions, BE-IN-G, and WiPro, to take CEI innovation even further. The focus? Improving customer Quality of Experience (QoE) through intelligent automation, energy-efficient operations, Gen AI integration, and the seamless blending of mobile and fixed access networks.

Building the Foundation: Insights from Previous Phases

Over the past four phases of the Catalyst project, the team has successfully developed and tested innovative CEI models across different network types and use cases:

The TM Forum Catalyst initiative has progressively matured the Customer Experience Index (CEI) concept by developing analytic models that combine crowdsourced data, mobile SDKs, router performance metrics, and active robot testing. These models have enabled the implementation of automated use cases such as anomaly detection, closed-loop incident resolution, and CEI-driven SLA management for both mobile and fixed network scenarios.

This technical groundwork has established a robust ecosystem that supports convergent, automated and customer-centric operations—now further expanded and refined in Phase V.

Evolving CEI for the Next Generation of QoE

1. Converged CEI: Bridging Wi-Fi and 5G

Phase V introduces a unified CEI framework that integrates insights from both fixed and mobile access networks. By combining router data, mobile SDKs, and crowdsourced inputs, operators like Telefónica Spain gain end-to-end visibility into user experience. Whether users connect via Wi-Fi or 5G, CEI ensures consistent service and fast issue resolution.

2. Sustainable 5G Networks with CEI

Sustainability is no longer an afterthought. MedUX uses CEI to fine-tune energy-saving features like Power Saving Functions (PSF), adapting dynamically to the user’s actual experience. This means operators can reduce power consumption and lower carbon emissions—without impacting service quality. CEI also enables estimation of the carbon footprint for different network scenarios.

3. 5G Slicing and SLA Management, Powered by CEI

In collaboration with Elisa, this use case uses CEI as a control mechanism for managing network slices in 5G Standalone (SA) environments. The model enables:

  • Intent-based SLA policies
  • Real-time anomaly detection
  • Closed-loop automation

When Wi-Fi optimization hits its limits, dynamic 5G slices are deployed to preserve user experience—perfect for VIPs, gamers, or remote workers with demanding expectations.

4. Gen AI for Customer Care and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

This use case harnesses Gen AI to transform customer support. By analyzing CEI metrics, network KPIs, and anomalies, Gen AI:

  • Identifies root causes
  • Extracts key insights from complaints
  • Generates smart, contextualized responses

The result? Faster resolution, reduced frustration, and a significant bump in customer satisfaction.
